Weather or Not ☁️
Enter a city to guess the weather on a random day in history!
Tip: For best results, use large cities (like New York, London, Tokyo)
🔎 How This Game Works
Where does the data come from?
- We use Open-Meteo for global historical weather data.
- We convert your city input into coordinates using OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim API.
- The weather data comes from public reanalysis datasets (like ERA5), which combine satellite and station data.
How far back does the data go?
- We only select dates from 1980 onward, when global coverage becomes reliable.
- Older dates (pre-1980) are more likely to be missing or incomplete, so they are excluded.
Where does the data work best?
- ✅ Best results: U.S., Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia
- ⚠️ Patchy results: South America, Africa, South Asia before the 1990s
Tips for better gameplay:
- Use large or well-known cities (e.g. "New York", "London", "Tokyo")
- Expect the game to choose a random date between 1980 and today
- If data isn’t found, we’ll eventually retry with a new date in future updates
This game is powered by public datasets and open APIs. Data quality varies by location and time.
